hey guys, returned home from college this weekend i immediately started workin on my stang. i let it start up and idle for a long time with no problems and then shut it off. an hour or so later i start it up and let it idle and it does fine, but all of a sudden quits. when i finally got it started back up i could tell somethin was def. wrong, it was backfirin thru the exhaust and when i gave it gas it just seemed like sluggish and it seemingly barely was getting enough uumph in it to run becuz it wont idle without me giving it steady gas. anya ideas on where to start, could it be the points?

 

this might sound funny but after years of being a mechanic, is it out of gas? not to offend you but its happened more then you think.

 

Fuel filter?

 

I say points or timing. Sounds like what happened to me.

 

That sucker ran out of gas.

 

check the plugs I let a car sit for a long time once when I was in the Marine Corps, car would run but it run like s**t I pulled the plugs and they were fouled out completly.
