Default 65GT

I'm a newbie over from the corvette forum.I love old mustangs, and am looking at a 65 GT.It is in very very good shape, but has had a number of chrome add ons over the years, and hence would require several thousand to bring it back to original. The owner says it is not a K code but has the original hipo motor which he says is 271hp. I thought a hipo had to be K code as my 66 GT fastback was.The RT fender was replaced so ther is no vin# on the new one.Where else would I find the vin [door] or motor?Any help would be appreciated.

The 65 GT's had either an "A" or a "K" code engine. The 5th digit of the VIN will give you that information. The data plate on the door or the driver's side inner fender next to the shock tower will have the VIN. It can also be seen on the title. Here is some information regarding the HiPo K code engine so you will be able to recognize it.
