Default Batteries

I have a Continental on my truck and an Interstate Mega tron plus on my 65 Mustang. I was looking around in the car accessories department of Wally World a few days ago, and I just shook my head at the cheap batteries those guys offer. If nothing else in the world of motoring, you should get the best battery for the car you have. That is not where you need to save money IMO. Sears sells a good battery too. What batteries do you guys have, and why? Oh well, now I am back to making meat loaf.

Sears batteries are made by Exide. There's only like two or three OEM battery companies in the US. All the other 'brands' buy from them. Just like Tires.

Fred, can you do us all a favor and research your statements. I have always suspicioned this, but have no hard evidence.

Hi,

I believe that Sears went away from Exide after building their reputation with Johnson Controls. After some problems, Sears has returned to Johnson Controls. You are correct that there are actually very few battery manufacturers and that they make them to different specs for the different customers (i.e. Sears, Wal-Mart, etc). I personally purchase batteries at 'Farm & Fleet' - some are made by Johnson Controls.

I use Autozones in the stang and my Ranger the one in the ranger is over 8 years old and never added water or had to be charged. Get the duralast gold they are made by the company that made sears diehards when the were a good battery.

A super battery, but don't you think that is overkill for our little V8's? A pair of them on a PSD or a camper motorhome may be a more likely application for the Optimas. They ain't cheap.

Yes but, ya get them once and then never worry about it again. It sets in the car all winter without being charged and it never give me a problem. I put Optimas in all my weekend worriers.. You will pay about $50 for a 48 month, why not spend $100 and get the best..
