Does it matter what size speaker wire I use? My amp wiring kit came with 12 guage speaker wire, but it was only enough to reach one rear speaker. So my buddy had some smaller wire (not sure what gauge) and we used that for the front speakers and the other rear speaker. Will there be more power running through that 12 guage, in turn having better sounding speakers? We arent sure if it really matters.
It does matter. The 12-gauge is better compared to thinner wires, and that speaker will get more power, in turn throwing out "slightly" different acoustics than the rest of the system. Not too much of a difference though, but since you're putting some serious money into this bad boy, I would do it right the first time and not chince on this detail. The better speaker wires are not too expensive.
I agree with Rorin but if we are just talking from 12 to 14 I really really dought you will tell a difference. It depends on how good your equipment is and how much power you are pushing to those speakers.
Exactly, in a high powered system there would be a great difference in what gauge is needed. stuff like power transfer, signal, and overall distortion would depend on what gauge is used. The smaller wire will do just as well as the other stuff that come with your kit.
