Default Will it effect the value?

Hey all.... Getting ready to paint my car (66 coupe) and was wondering if painting it an un-original color would effect the value of the car. Or painting it an original color but 2 tone...Also what do you think about keyless entry? Is that customizing it too much to my liking?

it all depends on what your ultimate goal is. If you're looking for a factory resto look for value then you want to keep everything stock looking including color. If you want to customize it to your tastes then go for it but keep in mind things that are not correct for that year or colors that are not meant for that year will devalue the car in the collector eye. Just my opinion.

If you are thinking about selling it, an unoriginal color may or may not affect the value. It would depend on the buyer. If I were looking at it to buy, then it would definitely lower the value, but if an unsuspecting person with little or no knowledge about originality were considering it, it probably wouldn't hurt the value. As far as the keyless entry. Same answer. But, it is your car, so build it like you want it, then worry about value down the road. It can always be repainted to an original color.

I've really been mulling this one over. Since last week when I noticed that the previous owner burned 3 of my for corners with his super duper buffing job. I like the vintage burgundy.... but I really like a dark blue.. and I love the blue/white pony interior. Though... my car is pretty origonal.. by messing around with it to much... I'm sure I'd devalue it a smidge. I know it has to have been repainted the original color at least once since the where the dent in the rear quarter was pulled has no paint damage. I'm pretty sure they replaced the left front fender back in '81 as well. So the car has been repainted. Albeit to the origional.

I think I may just have to keep it the color it is, do the burgundy accents in the interior though... then maybe buy another down the road.... do what i want with it. (ie, the dark blue exterior, blue/white pony interior)

I dunno... what say you old man? You've seen enough pics of my car to have an opinion.
