Ignition switch removal
Hi all,
I have a question, I have puschased a 69 grande, it has been garsged for abut 20 years, the person that i got it from has lost the key's, would it be better to remove the ignition switch an have a key cut for it ? Or purchase a new set ? Would it be cheaper to get a new one cut an then take it an have new one's made for the door's ? If so how do you remove the old one from the car ? Thank you in advance for any help.

To get the ignition switch out of a 1964-69, you will need to have the key. Since you don't have a key, you might want to contact a locksmith. You can hotwire the car to drive it to a locksmith, or you can have them come to your house.
yeah, you need the key and a pin, right? put the key in put the pin in the hole at the bottom of the ignition and turn counterclockwise to get it to release. and the opposite for installation.
They take a mold of the inside of the ignition, then just duplicate it to make a key. It takes time, and is quite expensive, but better than just ripping out the old unit. They can also use tools to get it started, so can probably just use those tools to turn to the ACC position so that a paper clip can be inserted into the little hole, then the ignition can be removed and a new one put in its' place.
yeah, that sounds like one hell of a project. now i have to get a locksmith to let me see exactly how this works. i'm one of those weirdo's who needs to know EXACTLY how things work
and get done. i used to pull apart vcr's and random appliances when i was younger cause i thought i would be albe to see how they work. i was rather disappointed when i got them open.[&o]

See if you can find a locksmith in your area and ask them.
