Ram air Mach1 ..
Hi guys, first post here.....
I'm in the process of restoring a 1969 Mach1, with a 351W ram air....the engine is being rebuilded right now, i'm going the performance road and hoping to keep my ram air system....my engine builder is redoing the engine with better pistons, cam, rockers, connecting rods,etc...i'm keeping the same head(c9) and having them ported....as for the intake we all know that the stock intake is not the way to go with the set up i'm using, we looked for an Edelbrock performer rpm intake to replace the old unit, but here's the problem, it will have the top of my shaker stick out so much that it will look ridiculous, or will not fit for that matter.....what should i do...i've heard of people dropping the base of the shaker in some way that the shaker top would sit lower...or is there somekind of intake out there that i don't know about that could do the job of a performer rpm and not have that height issue...Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks

Check the specs on the Weiand intake. I am not at all sure if that will help, but just look at more than one option for intake manifolds. BTW, welcome to the classic section of MF. Pull up a chair and stay awhile.
Whatever you do..... please , please , PLEASE don't cut up the original base. Contact Leon Grice at www.fordramair.com and see if he can help you with a fiberglass repro base. With respect to the original iron 351 W 4 barrel intake... it might surprise you. They are getting very hard to find and will flow much better if you simply port match the heads and intake. As for the C9OE heads, they're the best stock 351W head that Ford ever built. The chambers are tiny compared to all of the other 302/351 castings and yield a better compression ratio. Best of luck on your build up and if you just have to use an aluminum intake take Soarings advice and shop around. Look up the specs on a number of manufacturers products and find one that is sufficiently low profile to allow shaker clearance. OR , you could just sell my wife the car and then you won't have to worry about it .
Welcome and good luck, Dean

Thanks for the advice guys, i was just talking to someone that told me to have the original intake polished, and like mentionned earlier have the heads match ported to the intake......with good flat pistons, connecting rods,1.6 roller tip rockers, springs and pushrods i might be able to get close to 100HP over the stock hp numbers......the only thing i'm just worried about, is the top end HP, i wil get good low end torque and hp, but will be short of breath at around 5500rpm....
