well once you put enough vacuum to it, it goes to full advance. If you connect it to manifold vacuum it will be full advance while its running, if its connected to a source that doesnt have vacuum untill a certain throttle position it will then advance but wont be advanced at idle.

Some engines run better with full advance all the time, but for the street its better to have it come in later. Usually its a port on the carb that is above the throttle blades that doesnt see vacuum at idle. Get a vacuum guage, its a cheap tool that will help you tune the car better, and know what does what and when.

yea i think its timed because i took the vacuum hose off the carb and at idle put my finger to feel for vacuum and their was none, the reason i wanted to know is because i bought an edelbrock 4 barrel carb and it has 2 ports for timed vacuum and full vacuum and i wasnt sure which one i connect my hose to, thankyou for your post
