Looking for a new carb
Ok, I have a '66 Mustang Coupe. 289, V8, 2 barrel auto. The carb is old and going out and I really don't want to rebuild it again so I'm buying a new one. I need advice here. What would be the best carb for my car? I've been looking at Holley and Edelbrock, but I just don't quite understand all what im looking at. I want something that's not just what the stock offers, but something more. But yet, not too much. And I don't know if electric choke is better for this model. I don't know. Can someone give me some advice here? Thanks.
An electric choke is the way to go if you are getting an aftermarket carb. Holley akes a nice 450cfm 2V that is an easy bolt on. Some folkes prefer Edelbrock to Holley so it's just a matter of personal choise. If you are sticking to a 2V carb, stay in the 400 to 450cfm range.

There seems to be a lot of hype about "performance" carburetors. Maybe that is somewhat true with the 4V's, but the stock Motorcraft 2100 2v carb will give you just as much if not more "performance" as any of the aftermarket 2v's will. They are bullet proof and easy to dial in.
Soaring, im keeping the motorcraft 2 barrel on my 351 that i have, its a 71 model. Do you think it will suffice? Also do you have a link to a site that will show me how to dial it in?? Im not sure where everything is on those carbs.
Daver, you have two adjustments without taking the carb apart. First is the air/fuel adjustment screws which are on the front and bottom of the carb. (pic 1) Turn those both all the way in, then come out about 2 turns. Tweak them from there to get the smoothest idle. Then there is the idle adjustment screw. (Pic 2) Turn it either way to get the engine to idle about 700 RPM or so. Drive the car around the block, and if it needs a faster or slower idle, adjust it again.

Pony carburetors is by no means the cheapest supplier out there, but most likely the best. Here is their site where you can not only order a carb or a kit, but there is some other information here such as how to figure what CFM you need to be running.
