Default Just curious about the codes

Hey,
I've noticed folks talking about the differences in the "codes" in several threads... I've heard mention of "C" code cars, "K" codes cars, etc.. When I bought my 68, the guy told me it was a "J" Code car. I just sorta blew it off as "whatever". So, now y'all got me curious, what's these code mean?

The letters represent the engine identification code, this site will help you out:

http://www.minuit10.net/EngineCode/m...ngine-code.htm

this place will give you the codes from the late 50s to the early 70s.

In 1968 I didnt think they used 390 engines in the Shelbys? I know the Mustangs used them, but the SHELBY?

I can assure you no Shelby on the planet Earth ever left the factory with a 390, regardless of year.

Also, the J code 302 was used in more cars than the Shelby's. It uses the same pistons, connecting rods and 5/16" bolts as the 289 and other 302's. The combustion chamber is smaller to achieve more compression.
