Header question on 70 Mach
Hey all, I'm looking at replacing the stock exhaust manifolds on my 351W (70 Mach 1 w/4 speed manual trans.) and was wondering what kind of issues I'm going to run into. It has power steering so I'm guessing I'm going to need the drop bracket for that, anything else? What's a good header to buy if I'm on a tight budget? Should I go long tube or short? Oh and am I going to be able to do this with the motor in the car or does it have to come out?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

You should be able to install the headers fine with the motor in the car. I installed some hooker headers on my 428 1970 Mach 1 about 15 years ago. The engine had to be jacked up on one side but I am not sure if you would need to do the same with the 351. All the best.

Thanks for the reply, ya I'm guessing the 351 takes up quite a bit less space than a 428.
So will I need the power steering pump drop down bracket if I go with longtube headers? Will anything else be in the way or cause problems?

I've yet to find a set of aftermarket long tube headers that are made to use with a 4-speed; most are for autos only and alot of times they don't even say that in the ad. I finally bought a set for my 71 and they need major modifications to get around the clutch linkage. If someone comes up with a place that makes a long tube for a 4 speed I would drop this headache project in a second!
