Does anyone know if the 289 is externally balanced or internally balanced? I need to know what type of flywheel/flexplate to use. Also mine has a harmonic balancer i dont know if that makes it external or not. Thanx.

 

I have a 67 289. I believe all, with maybe the exception of a HIPO K code 289, are externally balanced with a 28 oz. harmonic dampener. When you go to buy a flywheel, they should be able to detrmine what you need. Good luck

 

Thanx for the quick reply. What type or brand of flywheel/flexplate and starter are you using? Mine dont fit together right, the wieght on the flexplate hits the starter teeth.
