water temperature...
Hi guys i just upgraded to a 4 row radiator
...my question to you guys is how far should my needle travel with a good healthy engine...in other words if im driving down the street in 95 degree weather and im always getting stopped by red lights, should my needle go half way, quarter way, or should my needle not move at all? because my engine is always below a quarter... is that good or bad?

my car sits right at just a tad over 1/4. i have a 4 row and as far as i know both my dads(also 4 rows) run at that temp. before i restored my car it would stay at the half but once i got the original fan shroud and 6 blade clutch fan back in with the 4 row, it ran so much cooler. so imo i think your runnin right where u need to be
so if I get a fan shroud it would cool my engine a little better right? i have no fan shroud right now, but if it cools my engine just a little better then ill buy one right away...i heard that it cools your engine by 15%, is that true?
oh yeah if you team that up with a 6 blade or a flex-a-lite fan, it will frastically cool down much better. fan shrouds main purpose in life is to not only draw more air in but to draw it in and pull it in straight, not so it bellows around, so yeah i think a new shroud runs about 35-45 bucks and a clutch fan is anywhere in the range of 65 bucks and flex-a-lite for a little more
Surely the thermostat temperature range will come into play here.
I have a 4 row radiator as well and my temp gauge runs at 1/4.It has a 160oF thermostat and I'm thinking of changing to a 180oF to get the engine up to a better operating temperature.
It's not good to run too cool as you can build up sludge in the engine. This is sometimes evident under rocker covers when no thermostat is installed.
