Ignition Switch Question
I am in the process of putting an ignition switch in my 67 289 coupe. Many years back the car was stolen and the ignition wires were messed up. I put in a universal IGN switch, now I bought the stuff to restore it to the original switch. Here is my question. The terminals on the new IGn switch are not labeled and the wiring diagrams that I have dont explicitly show which wires go where.
This is the way I have the universal switch hooked up. It has a center bolt and three other teminals labled Battery, IGN, ST and ACC
Battery Terminal – Thick solid yellow wire
Ignition Terminal – Green wire with red stripe and thick pink resistor wire( I believe these go to the coil) and two more wires that I added for the coil and pertronixs
St (starter?) center bolt of switch - red wire with blue stripe
Acc – thick solid black wire
Below is a photo of the back of my new IGN switch. There are 4 tabs and the center bolt. Three of them are inside of a black plastic kind of triangle shape and the fourth tab is on the edge of the IGN switch.
I'd like to know how the original switch is hooked up. Is there a connector that simply plugs into the back of the IGN switch. I plan to attach the wires with electical connecters, I don't know what you call them but they will slide onto the tabs sticking out of the back of the IGN switch.
Can anyone tell me which wires attache where?
Thanks for any help

There is a plug that plugs directly into the ign. switch. Try some of the vendors listed in the FAQ and see if you can come up with that plug. Then, it is just a simple matter of matching colors. Here is an article for you.

I know I have started a prior post on this subject already, and have recieved info and I appreciate it. here is the latest info. I have been trying to locate the wiring plug that connects to the back of the IGN switch. Ive tried several vendors such as NPD, CJ Pony, CA mustang, Laurel mountain and Mustangs ulimited. No luck unless I want to get the full underdash harness. One of the vendors did give me a number of a salvage yard, Colorado Mustangs. They could cut off a used one for $45. But i will still need to modify it a little since I added two wires for the electronic ignition.
I was hoping I could just attach the wires to the tabs on the back of the IGN switch. I just need to figure out which wires go to which of the four tabs on the IGN switch. I haven't found any wiring diagrams that are specific enough. But I'll keep looking.
Otherwise, I'll be searching junkyards. I have not tried looking for mustangs in my local junkyards. I suspect that most of them will have already been picked over. Who knows I might find something else I can use.
Thanks again for your attention.
