351, four bolt mains, stroked to 408, high compression pistons, victor jr intake, choose your heads and race gas!

289 hmmm, alum heads, trick flows should work well. a good strong bottom end, forged internals, have someone do a swirl port job for you. i still stick with the victor jr intake, but it comes with a price. what's your budget and what exactly do you wanna get out of it.

Air Flow Research heads, Weiand intake, Motorcraft 4100 carb, JBA long tube headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust with an X pipe. That will get you to the HP range and still be a daily driver for the street.

that one will work, and drive nice. The carb is simple and effective. Add a cam that has 214/224 duration at .050 lift and you are golden. It will be a small cam for those heads, but it will idle nice and make good power. Browse summit or jegs for the cam you want in the price you can afford. I recomend the entire valvetrain in one kit. CompCams has that, they are nice.

I don't know much about cams, but isnt 214/224 duration a bit mild?

How would a cam behave with .050 lift and duration closer to about 300?

Oh, there are as many combinations as there are cars out there. I was just giving you an example. The Performer RPM heads and intake are a favorite of a lot of guys. Edelbrock and Holley carbs are also a fav for many. Hooker headers and others are choices of many. Just be sure you get a single plane intake. I forgot about mentioning the cam. Thumpin is right on the money.
