It's a good combination, and will set your skinny butt in the back of the seat at launch. Horsepower costs money. The more you spend, the more horsepower you will get, but everything has to work in combination. If you don't have the tranny or rear or suspension/frame to handle all this power, then you are just crapping in the wind.

How would a cam behave with .050 lift and duration closer to about 300?

THAT IS OUTRAGOUS DURATION AT .050 lift. 300 is alot at full lift.

Well, thats what I have in my rebuilt 289. Intake is .475 lift , 288 duration. Exhaust is .500 lift , 298 duration. She idles well ( except my edlebrock stills needs fine tuning ) and has mucho gitty-up.

Whats "OUTRAGOUS" about it?

Whoops, my bad. Like I stated earlier, I don't know much about cams. Thanks for the clarification.

edit: ok, im a dope. THUMPIN455 said "Add a cam that has 214/224 duration at .050 lift and you are golden." That is exactly what I have; got my numbers confused. Sorry to mess up your thread 6fivestang. I need to take camshaft 101

I don't want to sound like an *** hat, but, do a search on previous posts. There is an absolute truck load of info on both getting power out of a 289/302, and more importantly getting that power to the road. I sound like a broken record here, but what do you want to do with the car? daily driver with track time, pure daily driver? auto or manual? rear end selection, highway use? etc etc etc. Answer all of these (and more) first, then think about engine combinations.
Its at this point you can get some usefull info out of the massive knowledge base here. Cheers!
