Default Thing under voltage regulator

What it the name of the part that mounts under voltage reguator - cylinder shape with a wire going into alternator harness. Changged my alternator and harness and wire to snapped off - thought I might as well replace it while I'm at it. thanks

It is a "condensor". There may be two, one on top and one on bottom. Part number and where to get, not sure. Call Auto Zone and ask them. Ask for a "Voltage regulator condensor".

It acts as a static suppressor for the radio too. You probably have one on the alternator as well.

Don't have one on the alternator. Went to autozone and advance auto neither had a voltage regulator condensor listed. I'll try asking about static surpressor - if someone has a part number that would great -may not even be necessary I have not got the car back together to start up yet to see what happens.

Modern radios don't need that anyway. If you have a modern radio, just forget it.

Definately what he said. for example, like for my 2001 deck, I'd definately need that piece. But a 2006 deck wouldn't.

I am not sure exactly what they are but I know when I done my engine compartment and had it all out, I put one in and it did not totally seat correctly. Of plugs into the same plug as the voltage regulator. The car would crank but not start. I played with the clip and got the one wire to go in all the way. Viola, it cranked right up. Coincedence of better connection???? That's all I know about those puppies. They were on there, and remain.
