hey i just recently baught a 1965 mustang and the engine was seezed so i got a 302 out of a 86 that is fuel injected that im trying to put in it. i was talking to a friend and he said that the computer off of that car might not work because im not useing the trany off of the other car. he said that the computer has to hook up to the trany and without that hook up the computer wont let the engine wont run. i was wondering if yall know any thing about that?
the computer doesnt matter on a speed density car if u keep it fuel injected y not put a carb on the engine? also ur gonna have to use a 50 flywheel, the stock 65 oil pan, timing cover and water pump and have to change the gear off the end of the distributor on the if u go carb!
i baught the car off of a old friend and gave me the other engine and i figured the fuel injection would be better but i got a four barrel card for it but no intake and i dont have very much money to get this car runing again.
whats a 50 flywheel?
i just planned on using the one off of the 289.
i broke the old timeing cover can you just swich the pumps?

its the radiator thats the problem cause the 5.0 pump is reverse rotation. I would just go to the junk yard and pull on off another carbed engine 289-351 cause u gotta have the dipstick in the timing cover for the early car! the balance on the 82 and up 302 is 50oz the stock vintage stuu 65-81 is 28oz do u have a stick or auto?
gotta use the one off the 86 otherwise it will shake like crazy and kill the bearing in the bottom end of the engine! now for the flywheel theres too styles 157 tooth and 164 ur gonna have to decide which one u need(count the teeth)? the flywheel off the 86 if its automatic wil be 164 tooth but i dont know if it will work for a c4 tranny? but when u go to order one u gotta specify 50ounce balance! look for a 82 and up car with a front mounted dipstick and v belt arraingement it will bolt to the 86 balancer!
