Ha

Yeah I had the exact same problem with mine just as you described, I added street handling kit from NPD along with my choice of Global west suspension upgrades.
Got front 1 /18th anti sway 1" rear. Lower and tighter rear leaf springs, kyb gas adjust all the way around, 650lb springs up front. It made a huge difference.

It's the design of the hydraulics within the pump. So, how about some minor reengineering?

Go for it!!

Buy a new remake find the trouble parts and then find some super high quality material and Mill / Lathe etc and tool a super high tolerance upgrade and then sell them in NPD/summit/Jegs

Sounds like a plan, the first one will probably cost a bunch to make but if it rivals rack and pinion you might have something. Subsequent versions will cost less due to gained knowledge and already setup tools.

Call me when you have the proto type

Why would I call you?

Actually, in the distant(?) future, I'm interested in buying a mill and lathe capable of gear definement, and perhaps other uses.

shaping metal, and precisely teething it... "Inappropriate" lathes could produce inaccurate and rugged results.

The actuator requires too much play IMO before it decides which way to pressurize. Thus that loose feeling that can be taken out by converting a manual stock system. Then there is all the other play amongst gears and joints that is still there. Quite an engineering project to tackle.

Irresponsive steering hasn't bothered me, yet. I do like how this car's steering requires less effort to operate than that of any newer auto I've driven. In other words, unlikely I'd design a pump specifically for powersteering. I'd definately rather focus on suspension.
