Default suspension

I've got an L6 '66 two barrel, not much to go wild about, but i love it all the same. The suspension I have is pretty wobbly, and that coupled with lack of power steering really makes for a ride I'm looking to improve (by the way I'm a newb to this site). Anyways, what are some upgrades I can make to my stang to improve the ride quality? I'm on a teenager's budget, of course, so where are the best places to put my money for the best resale value later down the road?

I would start with new shocks and springs, front and rear. Then consider:

upper and lower control arms
tie rod ends to help steering
pitman arm or center link

try www.mustangsplus.com first. Good quality and reasonable price. Better than stock original, but not too high end for the budget. I have power sterring so I'm not familiar with what you are feeling in the manual, but the shocks and springs are a good place to start. KYB shocks (Gas Adjusts) and the heavier springs...

I would go with what muggsy said but put larger anti sway bars (front and rear) as priority over everything else. Nation Parts Depot has good selection of suspension upgrades as well.

You can also look at doing the Shelby A arm drop when you have the front end apart. There are pros and cons with this, but if you do a search of previous threads, you will get info on this. Personally I have done the mod, and find it great for improving cornering. In addition to this, fitting the export and monty carlo brace will stiffen the front end up, and improve handling aswell.

i've done the shelby drop and installed a monte carlo bar. I LOVE BOTH!!!! Great additions. I really dont believe that shelby stopped the shelby drops because of ball joint stress. They stopped for financial reasons. it was so great, that ford kept doing it in all future models, 67 and up.

IMO,
The best place to put your money is in Muni-bonds or certificates of deposit for a fairly safe return on your investment.

As for your car, I'd suggest doing three things.
1). check your tires for wear, inflation, and proper/matched sizing. Then measure the car to check for sag.
2). Take it to a professional and have them do a thorough front and rear suspension inspection.
3). Search this and other forums for "suspension, steering, brakes", etc.

With this knowledge you will be able to come up with an educated plan that you may want to post for others to review/critique.

Good luck,

Scott
