block swap?
hey guys, haven't posted here in a while.
Well as of right now, I have everything sitting on my garage workbench from heads to water pumps to carburetors. I'm wondering what i can do to the short block that would make it a little bit more reliable and powerful. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to go to junk yard and get an old explorer or 5.0 mustang (can't they handle a good amount of power?) block and work off that. Or should i just get a new short block. I really only need the short block assembly, Block, pistons, crankshaft, and the other small things things...
so the over all question... for the money value......
old 302 ford block.....
or
New 302/289 short block........

You could get the Ford Sportsman 302 block, but the question is how much power are you going to make and at what rpm?
Anything under 6k rpm and 400hp, keep your old block. You can paint the inside of the block to enhance oil drain down, just make sure you use the right kind of paint so the oil doesn't dissolve it. You could also try a main bearing girdle. You'll have more money to play with if you rejuvinate your old block.
