Default Antenna piece missing??

I clipped the mailbox at my mom's house the other day and knocked my radio antenna off. ( the mailbox was leaning out into the street due to the rain, I'm not a clumsy driver!! ;p) The antenna isn't broken or bent or anything but it won't stay on the metal "stub" it came off of. I didn't notice any other pieces when I picked it up, but now I'm thinking there had to have been something else. It's a simple thing, it should just fit right back on and stay! Anybody know if there's another small piece I'm missing that secures the antenna to its base? It's a little thing but it's driving me nuts!

Thanks

you'll have a piece with threads going thru the fender from the inside. there should be a cable attached to that. than you have the piece with the antenna on it and it should have a bolt on it that tightens down on the piece coming thru the fender.there should also be a gasket that lays between the fender and the mount that sits on the top of the fender.

hope this helps some. if you could post up a few pics i may be able to describe what i'm talking about a little better for ya.

here are the pics... I know the threaded piece and cable you're talking about from seeing them on other vehicles, but my antenna doesn't screw on.. It just fits onto this metal peg thing... Or so it seems?

the antenna only fits over the smaller, top metal portion

no threads inside the antenna

in that case it has to bolt/screw on from the bottom, the inside of the fender. i took mine off forever and a day ago so i really don't remember, but from your pics, it's gotta bolt on from under the fender. and therein lies a BIG PITA! you have the bolts on the top of the fender just under the outer lip of the hood, one above the top door hinge, one you need to get at thru the kick panel on the inside of the car, one under the fender just in front of the door and whatever bolts there are in the front connecting it to the front valance.

wait, your antenna is the only problem, right? it won't screw onto the peg? you should be able to just go out and get a replacement one that should screw on to it. try looking thru your local auto stores and see if you can find another one. bring that one for sizeing up. lemme know what you find.

Yeah, you don't have all the parts there. Just order a new antenna from a Mustang vendor, or get a generic one from AutoZone.

is there a way to go about replacing it without taking the entire fender off? i know you can leave the fender partially hooked up, but than run the risk of scratching the love out of it (even if you take the fender you risk that too).
