Original vs. restomod (again)

Original vs. restomod (again)
I have seen alot of posts on here from folks wanting to know whether they should restore their car to original or custimize it into their own "restomod". Typical answers to that question are in the form of "What are you planning to do?, It's your car, do what makes you happy". I agree with doing what makes you happy, considering you are not wanting to turn a profit.
My car may be one of the farthest from numbers matching on this forum. I have a 1968 coupe. As most of you know, 67 and 68 were similar body styles (seperate from 64.5-66 and 69 and later). Appearance wise, one can distinguish between a 67 and 68 by looking at the rear quarters. 67s had 2 "scoop" ornaments behind the door, whereas 68, didn't have the scoops, rather they had a chrome trim peice. Additionally, 68s had side marker lenses in front of the rear bumper. My quarters were JUNK so I replaced them with 67 quarters, completely different than what was stock. I did it because I like the 67 look better than the 68. Everyone who knows mustangs tell me "nice 67!" and I say "its a 68", then the argument starts.
Additionally, 68 coupes had the option of having a 390 FE in several packages offered (i.e. california special). I wanted a big block instead of the 289, so I went one step further and drained my piggy bank on a 428. I am thinking that not many coupes have a 428, so I will be one of very few.
My point is to let people know that you should do what makes you happy. I know that eventually I will sell my car, I can't keep it forever. However, I am not building it to make the next owner happy, I want to make me happy (and my wife, she likes the stang too).
Also, what are your thoughts on my replacement of the quarter panels? Do you think I should have stayed with the same year? Keep in mind my title and VIN still says 68 and I will NOT change it.

I like the 67 quarters better too, so I say if you like it change it. The only thing I will add is if you are going to restomod a car do it to a car that is not rare. There are a lot of 6 cylinders out there that are prime canidates for restomoding. If you have a 65 K code GT fastback and you want restomod it I will hunt you down and shoot you myself!!! But that is just the way I feel.

do you have those 2 little scoops from the 67? i think i wouldve stayed with the same year IMO, but its your car and it makes you happy.
my car was originally a 302 2v, now its a 351C 4v, i didnt want a numbers matching car, there no fun in that, unless you have a rare car.

ORIGINAL: Soaring
With the exception of a few things like wheels, I restored mine as an original, because originality makes me happy. I have a new Mach for go fast.

Did 69 convertable for a girl years ago. She always felt that the quarter scoops on the 69 looked like they were on back wards. To make her happy we pulled them off, switched sides and reinstalled them the way she liked them. It's what ever trips your trigger.
