Default new project

hey guys, big project. just took my 66 pony off insurance to try to save me some cash while i attempt to redo alot of stuff. i plan on doing some small engine changes. id like to change the cam and put headers on it. i alreaady have 2.25 inch true duals running from my manifolds to 40 series flows.

my first question is what type headers should i run. apperence isnt everything i just dont want something that will turn red, or rust out on me. secondly im not much for internal engine parts selection, so i dont know much about cams. id like to have that deeper rumble sound.

lastly for now, i want to change the gears in the rear end. right now i have what i presume to be the stock rearend, gears ratio...im not too sure of. without the automatic overdrive the engine just sucks up fuel when i get up to speed. so id like to change the chunk if at all possible to acheive better fuel economy. while in the rear end id like to put a locker that way i both whiles put down rubber.

sorry for such a long post. any help would be very appericiated. thanks for the help guys.

Since it is a 66, I will assume it is a 289 engine. Hedmann and JBA both make good headers. There are lot of others out there too such as Tri-Y's that a lot of guys run. If you don't want the heat in the engine compartment, then consider ceramic coated headers. Regarding the gears in the rear, I wouldn't get any that are lower ratio than 325's. The stock 280's will give you the best gas mileage.
