Default no oil pressure

Have only driven my 65 about 15 miles since I got it, mostly just a short test run to see if latest repair was working. Put in a new radiator and exhaust donut and now no oil pressure. put in new gauge and line, still nothing, pulled the valve cover and no oil from the lifters. Recently put in a new distributorand seemed to work fine. Engine is a 351w in a 65 coupe. Engine was redone fairly recently, but someone ussed a variety of parts, so engine has to be run with 302 firing order and has the wrong balancer or timing pointer on it. Bottom end has like new bearings and obviously had a new oilo ppump put in. The dizzy that I replaced may have been the original 289 unit, and I replaced with a 351w points unit. I think I may have gotten in to a problem with a smaller drive rod for the oil pump, too small for the 351w dizzy. It had 40 to 65 lbs of pressure for a couple of test runs, now nothing. Does Ford use a different size oil pump shaft for 289 and 351w?and if so which one do I need to change, the shaft or the bottom of the dizzy?

You can check oil pressure by pulling the dizzy and using a deep 1/4 inch socket and an extension in a drill. Put the socket and extension on the oil pump shaft and drive it with the drill counter clockwise. Check your oil pressure then. If it is pumping up you will feel the drill bog down.

firing order on a 289...15426378
firing order on a 351...13726548
How is that working?
The 289 distributor is shorter than a 351 distributor
The 351 has a larger oil pump shaft

Read the one for the 351
Sounds to me you definately have some parts that are miss matched

Thanks for the info, this confirms what I suspected the problem to be.

of course wouldnt run it with no oil pressure, starteed it a couple of times, but just at idle, and very glad it had mobil one inside. Getting ready to pull the pan,and take a good look inside again, put in a new pump and shaft and check the bearings.
