no, maybe i'm wrong, but i thought they weren't FWD till the last econobox version came out. the one that was partially designed by peugot(sp) or something like that. i know the fox and mn-12 body styles were RWD.

JK! JK!
Getting back to the cougar. My step brother had a cougar that was the 67 Dan Gurney special pace car. It had a hipo 289 and loaded to the hilt with deluxe leather. I personally didn't care for it since I was into mustangs at the time. It was a gold/browning color with a black ninyl top. I still remember the Dan Gurney special sticker in the quarter window. He T-boned a girl in a intersection in Brea, CA where he lived. At the time the car was totaled(it wouldn't be now).
Thanks for the compliments, I have been needing to do something with it for the last 20 years! It will be about the nicest 67 you will ever see when its done. I like the old T birds too, but just for cruisers and when they are someone elses ride..
The Cougars were slightly longer Mustangs with better lookin skin (Hehehe J/K) and the Cougar grew big with the Mustang untill 74, then it was built on the Thunderbird platform untill it became a front driver in the 90's.
I had a chance to buy a 67 XR7 GT that originally had a 390 for $75 back in the 80's. I really shoulda bought it, even if it was rough as hell. The guy who had the 390 car sold me the seats and interior he had recovered just a few months before wrecking his 68 Cougar by rollin it about 4 times. He was a huge cougar nut, had them all the way into the 70's but mostly 67/68's. Not much left of the 68, but the parts were good! They are still in there and in great shape. Cost me $75 for nearly the entire interior. It seemed to me that he would sell anything for $75.
He also still has a 289 4V 4 speed 67, original engine, trans, rear, etc. They came with 4 speeds, but yeah being a car favored by females meant most were auto. Doesnt bother me a bit, I had plenty of girls wanting to go for rides in the front and back seat of it.
Its going back to red, the yellow is just to protect it intransit from Nebraska to Michigan, and while it waits for a slot to open in my shop. Currently the fastback is taking up the entire space I could be using to store 4 cars. Ground up takes alot of room. Not sure about the top as yet, I am thinking I will just paint it instead of doing the vinyl again. The body style does lend itself well to the vinyl roof, but I dont need any rust appearing under it.
Anyway, first oder of biznezz is to rebuild the suspension. Its a nice change from the cleaning, cutting, welding, patching and fabricating that the fastback is getting. The old Cat was super scary to drive with the front end all worn out, hit a bump and the front would do all manner of ill things. So now I have two old Fords to work on when I am not tryin to keep the GMs running.. I need more room, and a much larger trailer... more projects still in Nebraska.

I've got a '68 DG Special sitting in the back yard... As soon as my storage garage is built up I'm going to town on it.
