Default 66 power steering hose (return)

I'm trying to replace the power steering hose (return hose) on a 66 mustang 289. I cant seem to get the damn fitting to thread into the end of the power steering the cylinder. The repacement hose I got from Napa is shaped slightly different, but it should work. The metal part of the hose fits snug agaist the swaybar and the PS cylinder, I think this may be why the damn thing wont thread in right (cant quite get the right angle?). The pressure hose I got was shapped slightly diffent as well and was a bitch to put on, but at least it went on. Any suggestions?

I did this project last summer, its a pain to say the least. The aftermarket hoses are never bent or shaped exactly like the factory hoses. I would up bending mine slightly to get a better fit at the control valve. It took me at least an hour with each fitting, they are very hard to work with.

My advice to you is to gently try to bend the fitting end like your old hose, be careful not to kink or break the line! AFter I bent mine, it still took awhile but finally the threads caught.

The other thing to mention here is that the clamp on the hose located above the fitting portion has no adjustment and is inadequate and will most likely start leaking after you have been driving for awhile. I replaced mine with a hose clamp and the leak stopped. Good luck with this.
