Is there a hole in the felt pads to allow the back bumper things to go through? If so I could be wrong on the bumper things. I still think that wire is grounded though.

The ballast resistor thing bothers me too. If you are running the ballast resistor and the resistor wire under the dash has not be bypassed you are cutting too much voltage from the line.

Ignition? Do you mean the coil?

Here is how it should look with a pertronix module after you have put in the single points distributor.

Hows come that won't work in a dual point?

Looks like I need to get some sleep. Yeah the coil. A PITA is a pain in the ***.

Good eyes!

I think you've nailed it. The screw probably turned when he fastened the wires back down on the outside.
IIRC, that is an old Mallory dual point, and it does have square cut outs in the felt. The felt kept the cam lubricated, as the blocks were notorious for wearing out quickly (if a real old memory serves me correctly). I haven't messed with a Mallory DP since the mid 70s.

I think the car was running before he removed the wires to install the pertronix. Looks like You are right and it would sure pick up some power, and be easier to start with the correct voltage. Looks like the stock resistor wire plugged into that ballast resistor. That should drop it down somewhere around 6V. [] My buddies International was running like that. Made a big difference when he got all the voltage drops fixed.

Thanks for the back up Scott. BTW I might have a single point dizzy if you want it. I'd let it go cheap, like $20 plus shipping. Let me know. I'll bet a lot of folks on this site have those dizzys sitting around though. I would think they are pretty common.
