Default 68 signal light question

When my lights are off only my rear signal lights will work, but when my running lights are on ( both side and front markers are on when running lights on) the side and front marker will flash dim then bright. My 4 way flashers are also not working. Can anyone give me an idea of what is going on

The turn signal relay under the dash, near the fuse panel could be going bad....sounds more like a voltage drop. Does this problem happen while idling only, or also when you are at speed?

Just a guess but I have found that freaky problems like that tend to be in the turn signal switch.

The last time I drove the car was about 3 months ago, and I'm pretty sure that everything worked. I just finished working on the frame so I had the engine and tranny pulled. Everything is back in the car but I have replaced the steering wheel with a Grant wheel. I pulled the cap off the steering wheel tonight b/c I figured out that I also don't have a horn, (original steering wheel horn was not hooked up)after I pulled the cap off I could hear humming and the wires inside the cap were getting very hot. Now I don't have any signal lights, so I'm guessing the new steering wheel has something to do with my signal lights. Tomarrow I will pull it back off. Has anybody else installed one of these steering wheels??

Todd...I recently installed a Grant steering wheel on my son's 67 coupe. Initially had a similar turn signal and hazard light prob. Found that the contact plate from the grant was touching the turn signal assembly and shorting on the wires. The two copper horn contacts from the assembly were so worn down causing the grant contact plate to short out the wires. My final solution was to use end caps from a glass fuse and place over the horn contacts. This increased the height of the contacts and prevented the contact plate from touch the turn signal assembly wires. Do a search here caused there is a thread about this with pics. Good luck!!!
