Transmission
I dont think it is an FE transmission. The starter location on FE transmissions are a little lower on the bellhousing than this. Like soaring said, this transmission looks too small to be C6. Are you sure it is a Ford?
Attatched is a picture of a C6 for an FE (If it shows up).

Here is a pic of a C6. As you can see, the bell housing is a one piece deal mated to the tranny, and it is a bit larger. The pic shown above has a bell housing that can be separated. It has to be either a C4 or a cruise-o-matic or a ford-0-matic. The real way to make sure is the pan shape and how many bolts are on the pan.

Its either a C4 or a C3. A C3 has fewer friction discs for smaller clutch packs, otherwise its pretty similar to a C4. Both could be had in Mavericks with an I6, I seriously doubt you could get a C6 behind an I6 unless its in a truck with a towing package, still I doubt it.
It is most definitely and positively not a C6. All C6s had the bellhousing integral with the trans, meaning they arent a separate piece. C6's also dont have the lugs on top that a C4 has, you can see what looks like hooks cast into the case directly behind the starter mount. Those scream C4 and its derivatives (C3 and C5). its what we hook onto to hold the case when we rebuild them, only the C4 type trans has them.
The Bellhousing while round like an FE is not ever going to fit an FE. Those engines had much larger flexplates and flywheels/clutches than will ever fit in there. Plus the starter location is where the head will be on a V8, so its definitely for an inline engine.
Anyway, changing the bellhousing and putting it behind a V8 will cause it to die. The internals of the 6 cyl transmissions had fewer clutches than the V8s, as there is less torque to deal with and less need for holding power, especially in a Maverick.
Just so you guys know, the easiest way to spot an FMX is the case. Every one of them is cast iron. the bellhousing is aluminum, so is the tail shaft housing, but the case itself is iron. An FMX is a good trans, but with the iron case is considerably heavier than the C4 so it wasnt used in non factory performance applications. They are behind plenty of Clevelands and Windsors, so they arent weak, just a very small following.

C3 is completely different. They were not used untill the 80's and then replaced by the A4LD.
Listen GUYS. Cruise-A-Matic 6cyl. Not C-4 not C-6 not FMX or AOD. Cruise-A-Matic. No questions about it. Have a fresh built one in the shop waiting on customer now.
