Instead of going wider and making mods to the engine compartment you can go THICKER core and use a Griffin or a less expensive but equally good Fluidyne aluminum. I have a new Griffin GRI-7-565BC-CAX Muscle Car radiator in my '65 with a 306cu. It was a drop-in installation except for the bottom radiator support needed to be trimmed a bit. This thick core radiator cools like you wouldn't believe even with the AC on in 95 degree heat. I have the Derale DER-16926 electric fan/shroud combo which is the same one sold to Scott Drake and HotRod Air.

Here is a pic of it in the car.

Hey Eric,
What is that thing next to your voltage regulator? That's where the windshield washer bag is on my 65. Just wondering.

I can't remember where I saw the research on here (maybe in faq) but the cooling ability of aluminum to copper is like 3-1 so........
I think what you mean is that an aluminum RADIATOR cools better than a copper/brass one. The physical heat transferring abilities of aluminum are not as good as copper/brass, however the advantage is that aluminum can be drawn out much thinner which in turn makes it more efficient, not to mention lighter. And now you know.

You are correct sir. For those who don't believe it, read here.

MarkVIII is too big for a 65-66 radiator. The Derale fan/shroud combo (DER-16926) fits the rad perfectly. Summit sells it for $119 but without mounting brackets and a thermostat. Hotrod Air and Scott Drake sell the whole kit for $259. But you could just buy the fan, make your own brackets, install your own thermostat, and save some coin.

I just got done solving my over heating issues. I finally bought an aluminum radiator from a local radiator shop. It was $375 and the brand is Northern, the same brand Summits house brand is. It is a direct fit radiator with no mods necessary. I used to be getting over 230* driving on the highway, but now since installing it, I havent reached over 180*. I'm not even using the fan shroud I bought. I have a 7 blade clutch fan though.

here is the radiator I bought, http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku. I bought it from the local store because I'd have to wait forever to just order it. It's on backorder now until 7/30/06.

and here is a cheap electric fan, $45, a fellow 66 stanger told me about thats on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Just cough up the mulah and buy the aluminum radiator, you'll never have to worry about overheating again.
