Electric Choke Wiring
I have an edelbrock 600 w/ electric choke and i was wondering where a good spot would be to hook it up with some power. i think it is supposed to be a spot that only has power when the key is on.
What year? The swithable 12v power on my 65 ignition switch is the blue/black wire. Use a multi- meter, take your gauge cluster out, and check which wire is correct for yours. The big yellow wire is constant voltage on mine.
I just connect mine into the "S" or "Stator" terminal on the back of the alternator just like Ford did on umpteen thousand cars and trucks in the 70's. Generally if your car doesn't have an "ALT" or "GEN" light on the dash this terminal has nothing connected to it anyway.
For some reason Edelbrock's installation instructions say not to do this. I've yet to find out what makes their electric choke coil any different from all the rest. They certainly look identical to Ford's, Holley's, and everybody elses. It's possible they mean not to do so on alternator designs other than old Fords. I've had two Edelbrock chokes hooked up this way for about 5 years. Both trouble free and the chokes work just as well as the old Holley and Ford carbs did on each vehicle.
