i have 65 fastback with a 289 hi-po, it was running fine i was in 4th going about 45-50 mph and i started hearing this like banging sound when ever i gave it gas and if i took my foot off the accelerator it would go away. i kno the popping sounds coming from the carb, its backfiring threw the carb. i have kno idea how this would happen or what i need to do

 

A general tune up is probably needed, but first make sure the timing is set correctly.

 

i talked to some one and they mentioned timing but how could the timing get messed but or get shifted while i was driving it. like it was fine and then all the sudden it started doing it.

 

Your timing belt may have slipped.
