battery draining HELP!!
if anybody could please tell me how i can stop my battery from dying every time that would be helpful. i have already changed the alternator and regulator but i dont know whats still causing the problem
Hey
How old is the battery? Are u sure u hooked up the alternator the correct way? Its a possibility that the battery is bad. I had the same problem about a month ago. I had to jump the car everytime to get it started, and i had to keep my rpm's up otherwise the car would die because i was running off my alternator. If i came to a stop i would have to put my foot on the brake and rev the engine. My battery was only about a year old. Hope this helps

!!!!!! Did you test for a charge after you installed the new alternator (ie did you do it right are you getting 13+ V to battery @ 1200 rpm??)!!!!!!
After that checks out
The battery its self may have an internal short how new is it? still under warranty?
You can test for power drain using a multi meter simply disconnect the + lead from battery and stick the black lead from the Multi-meter to the + post on battery and the red lead from multi-meter to the red lead that you disconnected from the battery so current flows through the multi-meter. Make sure the meter is set to amp reading and if you get a current reading then you know there is a power drain from somewhere.

i dont think its an amp reading cuz it just happened out of the blue....new battery already got it test and exchanged cuz the one before it just died. how do i check how much voltage the alternator is giving
What im saying is if the battery is going dead its one of 2 things
1) Something is drawing power after the engine is off thus creating a current flow (amps) even with the car off. You must check amps with car off (I forgot to mention in my above post)
2) its not charging at all. The best way to check is with voltmeter and just measure across the + and - post with engine running. If you dont have a volt meter you can turn the headlights on and have someone watch them if you rev the engine up they should get a bit brighter and dim as the rpms fall off. Just rap the gas while someone watches and you should see it. If you see them change brightness then you know you are getting a charge and alt is good.

yeah i had them test it and they said that both the battery and alternator were good. i also tested the battery thing an old fashion way by turning the car on and leaving it on park and taking off the battery terminals but the car just died it didnt stay on.
Sounds like you need to check the wiring coming from the alternator. The car should continue to run off the alternator when you unhook the battery. I'm not near my mustang now so I can verify where the wires go but I'd start there.
