no if you do that engine right you can make it decent but don't get me wrong a v8 will still be faster in the long run but the i6 will probably outlast it

You aren't going to beat a Protege. And, forget about street racing in the first place. Ricers are the stupid ones, not Mustangers. So, if you get a Mustang, you take an oath to not street race. Especially in an I6.

I have a straight 6 250 cid and it isnt much of a power house but that is not y i bought it. I asked some questions in a thread a while back about the engine just wanting some info about it. There was a guy on my thread that claimed with the right parts you could get well over 300 horses out of the 250s. It wouldnt be an original car after that but if thats not what your looking for maybe you should look in to that. I believe the 1968 289 stock ran at about 195 horses and yours run stock at about 125hp. If your looking for power i wouldnt recomend switching out the engines. Ive looked into that and it is quite a hassle and lots to be changed. If your engine needs a rebuild it may not be that much more expensive to rebuild it with preformance parts than with stock parts.

Check it out

Heres the thread that talks about the 250 cid and also has some sites to check out for aftermarket preformace parts for the 250s

good luck

Here are some pics of the engine and the interior of the car. Im gonna keep the inline 6 and restore it to its original condition Ill get a different one later to mess with this one is gonna be original only though. How much money and work do you think this is gonna take? I was thinking maybe 2 years and 10 grand what do you guys think more or less?

Mine was worse... Yours has potential... I think the idea of putting performance parts INSIDE the motor and keeping the I6 is the way to go. Sort of a "sleeper". I'm sure with the right heads and cam and other stuff, it would go the way you want it to, and you could still paint it Ford Blue, and no one would be the wiser... If you're just going for a nice looking daily driver, I'd bet you could pull it off for 6 grand. The bodywork/paint will probably be the biggest expense, followed by the engine... I'm a do-it-yourselfer, so I'd never pay 6K for a paintjob. I'm not out to win trophy's, and I really like to say "I did it myself!" Anybody can lay down cash, but not anybody can lay down a great paint job!

I think 10k/2 years is a pretty good estimate on a car like that...it has a lot of potential.

while that may be true, my reasoning is, Im not out to win trophies but im not out to boast "Oh I did it all myself" either why spend hours trying to do something I dont know how to do, In the time it would take me to paint that myself, I could raise enough money to have it painted professionally TWICE lol, although that may be an exaggeration you see where Im going with this, time is money, and Im not rich enough to spend it learning to paint, but props to you cuz yours looks nice.

kind of off topic but im confident in my 6 inline, I beat my friends 289 with my 98 chevy silverados 305 and a 3 second headstart, maybe it was the headstart, but point is that a truck thats 2000 pounds heavier beat that stang, so my 6 inline cant definately do it.
