Default 289 value

What is an old 4 barrel "A" code 289 worth? Being that it needs to be rebuilt and maybe smokes some what?
I mean from oil pan to carbarator, with a C4 transmision and starter. No accsesories no pullys no Altenator
What is it worth?

If the carb and intake are left on it, it would be worth between 2-3 hundred dollars. If you take the carb and intake off, then you are selling a plain jane C code 289. Not worth the gasoline in my truck to come get it even if it was free. Here is a freshly overhauled C code for $405.00 Throw a decent dual plane intake and a decent 4 barrel carb on it, and you would have a rebuilt A code engine.

I think you are confusing the A code with the K code.

ACtually glen, The A-code engines had higher compression.... which would be something different in the heads

A code could be GT stang right? and as far as ive never know is that there is absolutely no difference between plain mustang engines and GT engine...the only diff is bigger or small engine you could choose.....

Higher compression from what, Charles? The C code? Yeah, you are right. The C code has 9.3:1. The A code was 10.0:1, whereas the K code was 10.5:1. The A code and the K code used the same intakes, so the difference in the ratio was in the heads for sure for the better part, not to mention solid lifters. At any rate, an old used (needing to be overhauled) A code 289 ain't worth a bunch of money. The K code would be worth more, not because it is any better engine when worn out, but because of its' rarity factor.

No, A code is not a GT thing. A mustang could have an A code engine without it being a GT.

But if was a GT it had to be and A code or K code. Until 68 and then all bets are off!
