Default What About Unleaded Gas?

Ok, so I know there are additives you can buy to make the gas more like the old leaded gas, but I have never used them.
How much do others worry about the type of gas they use and do you use additives to every tank?

I know that over time the unleaded gas is causing some premature wear, but how significant is this?

I usually buy the premium octane unless the price is crazy that day then I'll buy the lower octane. What works best?

It'll tear up the valve seals. I dont put any lead in my gas, because it's already been run with it a long time. So my seats are gone anyway. When i get new heads, or my old ones rebuilt, I'll really not have to worry about it.

I've heard it both ways...some guys swear it tears up the valve seats. I know somone who went 50k miles with unleaded gas in car that did not have the hardened vavle seats. I wouldnt worry about it but for an extra $3.00 a tank is it worth risking having to rebuilding the heads?

Good Luck!

It doesn't affect the seals. The exhaust valve seats will wear out quicker, but that's it. The harder you push the engine, the quicker the wear.

so when it is time to rebuild the engine, have the guy use hardened valve seats, and never worry again

The issue is that the lead in leaded gass is a lubricant. It helped prevent premature wear on the valves and seats. I drove my two older mustang for years on unleaded and did not have a problem. However, I did use additives. Primarily marvel mystery oil, which, when added to your gas lubes the fuel system. You know what they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Good luck!
