Default overheating problem solved?

i removed my 17 inch flex fan (it was blocking air flow at highway speed, but kept it cool around town). i installed the flex-a-lite clutch. i installed an 18 inch flex-a-lite fixed blade (6 blades) fan that i had milled down to 17 1/2 inches so it would fit comfortably inside my shroud. i installed an overflow/recovery tank. the set-up looks good.

i have a 180 degree thermostat
i will let you know how it works after the first road trip.

i also had to install a new voltage regulator because i damaged the old one when i moved it to locate my overflow/recovery tank.

A puller fan shouldn't block airflow. If your new setup doesn't work then I'd check to see if your bottom radiator hose is collapsing at higher rpms.

yep. the flex fan was flattening out at higher rpms...creating a virtural block through the radiator.

i'll let you know how it all works. thanks,

STILL OVERHEATING at highway speed. everything is fine until i hit the interstate and cruise at 70 or so. it starts to heat up after just a few miles. goes to 210 and will not cool down.

auto transmission full and not slippin' to cause excess heat.

cannonball, how do i check to see if my lower hose is collapsing at high rpm - just change it?

maybe the flex-a-lite flex fan wasn't flexin' flat and causing my problem after all. i am very puzzled...and not very happy.

Get someone to keep the engine reved while you feel the lower hose. Just watch out for the fan. Maybe instead of checking it, just install the spring that's suppose to be in it.

You absolutely must have the spring in the lower hose. http://www.texasmustang.com sells them if you can't find them at any closer vendor.

my wife and i are leaveing for vacation in the morning. i will check it when i get back.

i had this problem when i first rebuilt the car, but the new fan, shroud and 3 row solved it.

because i was burning oil (why i made my first post on MF), i pulled the heads and had them rebuilt (again), replaced the rings and rod bearings (again). not burning oil now and the car has more power and runs smoother. but the heating problem came back...only at high rpms. if it is not the spring in the lower hose - i'm just lost as to what it could be.
