Default (Electric) Radiator Fan Timer, '66 Question

So here's my first post...

I have a '66 with an electric fan and have noticed that my temp rises a bit (of course) when I stop. My concern is that I'd like the radiator fan to keep going for a few minutes after I turn off the car.

Does anybody know where I might find a solution? It should be easy... something like to a turbo timer, that has the fan run after the car is parked. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah, there is something called a thermostat switch for the electric fans. I picked up one at my local parts shop for 30 bucks. It will stay running for about 5 minutes after the car is turned off, you can adjsut for more or less time. You actually set it at a certain temp that you want it to turn on, and it will turn on when it hits that temp and then turns off, when it gets below that temp. So if you set it to turn on at a low temp it will stay on longer afterwards. It works great and is really easy to install.

All electric fans should be wired with a thermostat. The fan should not be on constantly if cruising at highway speeds is enough airflow for the radiator.

hey man,
i had the same problem on my 65. i havent got it completely lined out yet but i ran a toggle switch inside right under my dash beside the e-brake. so i can turn it on or off whenever i want to. but something else that i did before that that i think was working was i bought a modulator from abc auto or local parts store. the way it works is it mounts on the radiator the same way the fan does but it has a sensor that u stab into the back of the radiator, it doesnt hurt anything it just slides in between the fins. u can turn a small screw on the bottom to come on at a temp that u want. it comes on and goes off and keeps it like that. it might be the same thing the other guy said to do. good luck. tyler

Awesome responses, thanks everyone. I'll go find a thermostat switch. The fan does only come on when the temp goes too high, which is perfect... I just get worried when it's hot outside and I park, the engine temp continues to climb for a few minutes.
