WTF is this thing?
Just a couple of clues -
1) it is definitely an electrical switch (duh!)
2) It did not come from the factory - the connectors are discount crimp-ons
3) The wiring was also added - those colors would normally change when the switch goes in place.
4) The switch is probably a push-pull type - if you can get a nut on the threads, you can probably still pull it out to turn on whatever it is connected to.
5) If you have a voltmeter handy, one of those wires should be battery + (12VDC). Might want to be careful how you handle them.
There are a lot of tricks for digging wires out of a harness, but it looks as though these were added. Look at your diagrams to see what they connect into.

i have that too, mine is located under the dash next to kick panel. mine has power going to it but it doesnt do anything. ive already contacted ford and im currently waiting on a responce to a similiar question.
yea i foud my high bea switch, i really dont like it there, maybe i can move the switch somewhere else. idk, ill worry about that later. i also forgot to try my switch. its connecter right where i would like my highbeam switch though
Hey all I'm new here, first post. Spent 5 years doing a ground-up restomod on a 1972 hardtop, I will post some pix later.
Any chance you have an electronic distributor on your car? That thing looks an awful lot like the so-called "ballast resistor" that came with my Mallory electronic distributor. I did not need to use the resistor since I have the original "factory resistance wire" in my car (verified by checking both the wiring diagram and the actual wiring on the car, LOL). If my car did not have the resistance wire, I would have had to splice in the ballast resistor into the wire that runs from the ignition switch to the coil + terminal. On my '72 that wire is red / light green. I can see the red in your pic but not the other color. Some mineral spirits should clean your wire up enough to identify the other color easily.
For all I know maybe for 1969 the cars came from the factory with a ballast resistor and not resistance wire. Here's a pic of the mallory resistor at any rate (hope this works it's not immediately obvious to me how to attach an image to a post on this forum)...

Is your car a 4spd? That plug looks like the back-up light/neutral safety switch plug. On manual cars, the neutral safety wires are looped together as they are on yours. The other two wires on the plug go to the back-up light switch. Maybe your's stopped working and the PO wired in a manual switch. BTW, that switch looks like a push-pull switch. Try pulling the center shaft out.

I think that might be it! I noticed the backup lights didnt work but that is further down on my fix-it list. I will mess with the switch later tonight and see if they come on...
