Do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? When I put on my Grant, I got the same motion you are describing. There IS a bearing in the column (or it could be a sleeve, did not examine it enough, either way it was allowing the shaft movement from side to side), and mine had worked its way up the shaft. I fabricated a small spacer to span the gap between the bearing and the wheel hub, and problem solved for me.

Hey Guys,
Had the same problem with my GRANT wheel,... I found that using the Cone shaped spacer and the Big Spring (Both Original Parts, I believe) Solved my Problem>>>> see attachment:
It was a little tricky getting everything together with the spring trying to push it all back off,... But The spring pushes the coned spacer deeper onto the shaft, hence taking up the space that causes the movement in the wheel,... Mine is really snug now! Good Luck!
