You sound like a young kid who needs to take your car to a body shop to have them do a paint job for you. You really can't fathom the amount of work that sanding a car down to prep it for painting represents. The paint shops blast off the old paint and prep the metal with Primer all in one day. You will not know what damage rust has caused to your body until the paint is removed. So, a paint shop will not give you an estimate of repair until they have removed the paint and assessed the damage. Now, that is how you fix it right. But, if you have the time, patience and muscles, you can do it one panel at a time. Here is what mine looked like in the stripping stage. http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL326...5/20730969.jpg

Listen to your mother. Your car will just have to wait. Get a good education by studying hard and then when you get out of high school and college, you can pursue your love of owning that Mustang. In the meantime, get yourself an economy beater car and hit the books.
