Default Transmission problems?

i recently installed a new 302 in my 65 stang and it has the orinial tranny i believe, and it ran fine i left it sitting for awhile i went to start it up and i put it into reverse and it wont go i had to revv it up and then it slipped in i did it a couple times in reverse and in drive trying to get the tranny warmed up and it was full of tranny oil . my mechanic said it just has a bunch of metal crap in their and said to put a magnet on the tranny pan and that he would change the tanny filter and the oil is this all thats wrong with my tanny?

yeah, you know. I think i felt my tranny slipping today. it just felt weird.... I was revving at 2400-2500 at 60 mph, with a 2.80 rear. I dont think thats normal... i did just retard my timing the other day, but thats all that is different except a vacuum leak at the tranny modulator line. Could that be doing something?

when we first installed the engine i had to put it in reverse and go forward and try to get the tranny oil flowing and stuff it worked fine no problems but it sat for awhile and i mean when i slow down and come to a stop il try to take off and the engine will just revv until it hooks up is this just the filter and junk in the tranny fluid?

That if there is metal in the fluid there is a problem that slipage is not just junk in the fluid. I would take it to a comptent trans place. I used cottman trans for my ranger they were great and nation wide. They gave me a 2 year wanaty covering the complete trans. That was 2 years ago and no problems. They also did all the fluid and filter changes in that 2 years for free. From the moment I walked it they door I knew they knew what they were doing and were not a rip joint. They did a road test with me and exteral inspection free then correctly told me the problems and fixed it the first time.
