Default 8" locking rear end

Guys,

I recently acquired a locking rear end for my 66 but it only has 2.80 or thereabouts gears which is the same as what I currently have. It will buy me good traction as anything beyond half throtle now gets unwanted attention but I was wanting around 3.30 or so gears. Dunno if a 289 has enough torque in front of a C4 to have massive traction problems with 3.30 (welcome to comment on this).

What are my gear limits for this carrier?

I may just decide to sell the locker and buy a new third member. Dunno.

Because of the C4 and its shift points I wouldn't go anything higher than 3.55's unless you don't care about what your taching on the freeway. I have 3.55's in my mae racing 8" locker and at 65mph im tachin just over 3k, which is still driveable. You can't beat the off-line neck breaking response that you get with 3.55's though! Yes, the 289 will have enough torque to make you squirrelly with your suggested setup and yes you will probably need to upgrade some suspension components if you want it to grab perfectly.
