c-4 Cooler line
Hello guys,
I need to know how the heck to tighten up tranny cooler lines going into the tranny on a c-4, it is in a 66 Mustang. They were replaced awhile back but are leaking, I am going to remove them and put alittle teflon on em and retighten this weekend. It is my stepdads car and he said it is a royal pain in the *** to do and that is why they are leaking cause it was impossible to get em tight.
I need to know the size of the cooler line bolt, so I can go try to find a line wrench with a swivel neck so I can get it up in the space around the tranny, any help would be great! thanks guys.

easy way: unbolt the rear trans mount. unbolt the rear crossmember and support trans with floor jack from drivers side of the car. Have a helper lower the jack untill you can see the fittings. Tighten the fittings, then lift the trans back up with the jack and replace the mount and crossmember.
Less easy way, lift the car as high as possible and get in there with a wrench. You will have a tough time finding a swivel headed line wrench and a cheap line wrench will slip and round off the fittings. I have had zero luck with Craftsman line wrenches. Every one I have ever tried has messed up the fittings.
They are designed to not use teflon as the threads dont seal the tube does. If you use teflon be absolutely sure it doesnt go above the threads and or get in the transmission. It doesnt like that stuff much. Remember, millions of Mustangs were built before 1970, each and every automatic one had the lines on them and someone has had to tighten them before. Keep trying untill you get it done, it is possible to do. Try a longer or shorter wrench, sometimes that is all you need.

Ugh, it was a nightmare, and I didn't get them much tighter. But, at least I didn't make the leak worse. I am surprized it is leaking cause the fittings are tight, and the line doesnt look bent going in...
anyways I think it is a project for next spring!
I did look for crows feet but I could not find any that were line fittings. Where did you get yours at?
