Mark where each wire goes by using masking tape to write on, then attach that tape to the wire so you will remember which wire goes where. But, if you screw up and forget, we have a wiring chart for the alternator in the FAQ. Just make sure you keep the same colored wires if you replace them, or mark on the tape what color the old wire used to be.
ok...well my whole alternator harness is a fray duct taped together piece of sh*t so i need a new one....bad...the wire cap things arent even there anymore...just some melted residue!
anyways...i also need a voltage regulator which im gonna get at NAPA or Kragen......do they have alternator wiring harnesses there too?

I doubt it. Mustang supply places have them but they are pricey. Texas Mustang has them for $102.95. If I were you, I would manufacture my own harness. There are not that many wires, and it is a relatively simple design. If you do decide to build your own, then get several feet of wiring loom when you buy the wire. That will organize the wires and you can tuck that in nicely on the bottom of your rad support with the wires that go to the regulator. You will need two or three different sizes of wire. Just look at your old wire and try to match the sizes. You probably can't get the striped wires, but make sure you have three or so different colors, and only change one wire at a time so you don't get confused about which wire goes where.
You can get the harness from Virginia Mustang for $22 or $30 depending on your engine size and whether you have a tach or not. Just go to www.vamustang.com and type alternator harness in the search box and it will list all the models.
ok...yeah i think soaring is thinkin of something else....anways....i think that theres like no holes to mount my new voltage regulator....there is just this one weird little "made in italy" cube voltage regulator and i dono....
a picture of how its supposed to be on a 68 mustang with small block would be wonderful.....
