Default RE: Warranty Tag

hi grandev,
my first post was a very similar question.
i had an incorrect VIN and a reproduction tag that was "faked" using the VIN.
I tried this forum and various others and ended up with Kevin Marti (who does the Marti Reports on later models).

the answer is that FOrd destroyed the 65/66 records due to space constraints. The only hope you have is if the build sheet is still attached to the wiring behind the dash. However, this is unlikely to still be there. you may be able to see from underneath or pull the dash out. Otherwise its down to tracking previous owners, which is difficult!!

good luck

tell me the color combo, the type of tranny, and look on the diff for the rear gear ratio and I can get you most of the info...all that would be missing would be the build date and the DSO...

how can you do that?

I was trying to find all that stuff out too. i dunno what it once was, only what it is now and i get the impression that grandev is in the same boat.

i can reverse engineer a data plate based on what i'd like it to be, but how can you tell me what it once was from the VIN alone?

Maybe if motor / trans / axle are all original then you can find out most of what was originally on the car based on whatever option packages were available?

I was in that same boat of having next to no original info to start with. Non-original motor, non-original trans, non-original driver's side door, ... and the axle tag was missing to boot. I know there are other ways to figure out an axle ratio, but only when I put a tach in did I figure the axle to be a 2.75. At 70 mph my wheels / tires would do 905 revs / minute, tach said something like 2500 rpm, so... 2.75 axle. I did find out from an emissions sticker that the car was a 351C-2v so it would have gotten the 9" rear... I am guessing it is the original axle but even that is still really a mystery.

Thanks guys for the replies. There is no build sheet behind the dash.I have the car completely stripped for restoration, and I was aware that a build sheet could have been behind dash or under rear seat. But nothing is there. I have restoration books that I too can convert and "create " a possible warranty number, according to possible color,trans,etc...but thats the problem,I wonder what the exact color was and what trim it had, seems Poppy red or Rangoon red.I thought someone could have other info on VIn conversions in some stored data, thanks guys.
