i checked on the dash and it still says 85 who knows if its accurate but we can only assume. if i hadnt mentioned it a 76 year old women owns the car and used to use it to drive in and out of town.
Did she drive it into town for groceries or just to go to church?

Just kidding. Most likely, the odometer has rolled over one or two times. But it doesn't really matter in my opinion... $6k (or less) sounds like a great price for that car. As a rough estimate, if the outside looks as good as it does - I'd guess the mechanical side was well taken care of too.

Have you heard it run/driven it yet?

It could very well have only 85 grand on the Odometer. I got mine 10 years ago with less than 100K and it only has 125K now. A 289 with 185 or 285K would be smoking like a haystack. Get her to let you start it up and run around the block with it, then listen to the engine. You will be able to tell the approximate mileage just by listening to the engine and checking the tailpipe.

crappy drum brakes, any smoke coming out of the exhaust (and note what color), suspension noise (you'll get some good squeaking if your leafs are rusted), check the gas tank filler neck on the inside of the trunk for leaks, start off slow and see if you get a bouncy speedo needle (usually a bad speedo cable if it bounces)....those are just a few things

also, if the seller will let you, try to pull back some of the carpet at the firewall, under the dash, and check for any rust in the floor pans.
