I agree....is a couple of gallons of race fuel going to do a better job of raising the octane level. Is there any downsides to mixing this way?

Since i cant seem to find what the timing is and it common for the dampner slipped on the rubber ring behind as it appears it has?

Why don't you just spend $100 for a new dampener, I don't get it? Why waste all this money on race fuel and octane booster?

Is timing def my problem? I'm not a real mechanical guy when it comes to this kind of stuff. If that's the case that's what ill do. Is the $100 damper from Summit a good one? I figure with labor costs i would be looking at a couple hundred bucks.

If your damper has slipped, you do need to change it out.

It sounds like you may have some hot spots in the engine that can be causing problems. The cam may also be installed a few degrees off straight up, as well.

My dampner has slipped, but i still adjusted the timing just about right. Why would he HAVE to replace the dampner?

If it has slipped, it is no longer able to properly do its job. A couple different machine shop mechanics have spread that info...

The operative word here is IF it has slipped. My suggestion would be to take that car to a hotrod shop and have them test it to see what your problem is. You didn't buy a Pinto, so you have to pay the piper since you obviously have no clue. We could add conjecture and our internet ideas of what the problem is, but it is difficult to crawl through a computer monitor to hear exactly what is going on.
