Default Professional painting?

How do professional painters strip paint totally off. I know on large surfaces they just use a belt sander but how about the underside of the hood or trunklid? How would they get in those areas?

Stripper? That'd be messy wouldnt it...

i hate paint stripper, only gets top layer and leaves a huge mess....i used some stripping wheel thing on my fender today and its down to bare metal in about an hour....for smaller areas i will prob get a mini wire wheel and a dremel or just use my drill and strip them that way....

well unless theres a problem with the hood theres no need to strip it i wouldnt do it at work [:'(] if i did? i would probably just use a da with 80 grit paper and make sure not to get the hood to hot and sand all the crevices with my hand

In one of my CARCRAFT mags there is a really good artical on painting the engine compatment. if i remember right it's one of those painstaking thing that comes with body and paint that no-one wants to do..every crevis by hand. but the stages of sanding are between primer and paint as well as beginning with many diff. grit levels..since the levels arnt flat it's really a dif. proccess but has less room for error since it's not the outside flat surface...I know your not doing it youself but id thought id go on a rant.

if its a full on resto or a mag quality build, they will go bare metal either by chem dip or media blasting.
